This morning I had a funny feeling, like I should make sure I had my insurance papers, etc, handy in case I was ever pulled over. I actually made the effort to check the glovebox as I was stopped at a light, just to make sure. It was a weird compulsion, because I'm a really cautious and lawful driver, and it came out of nowhere.

You can see where this is going.

Later this afternoon, I was on my way back from a sushi lunch w/Owen (he had the chicken), when Owen remarked that there was a police car next to us at the light. I nodded, and we continued our little singalong to the Juno soundtrack (he knows all the words). As the light changed and we pulled forward, Mr. Policeman pulled directly behind us, lights flashing. Ah, nice.
I truly had no idea why I was being pulled over. Did I have a light out? It turned out that my inspection sticker was expired and I had no. earthly. idea. Totally oblivious. I'm a smart one.

Fortunately, the officer was really nice, gave me a kind warning, told me to get it inspected asap, and sincerely thanked me for being an organ donor before sending me on my way.

I haven't been pulled over in 15 years, so I'm really glad it went smoothly. I can't take that sort of excitement. Also, I'm a complete a-hole who should look at her windshield more often. And apparently I'm psychic.

Thanks! From now on I'm going to stuff my pockets with packs of cigarettes to barter for things in prison, just in case.

And if I could harness my powers for good, I would!

yikers!

I got into an accident ( not my fault) last summer and as I handed my license to the cop I remembered I forgot to renew it. It had been almost two weeks. I began sweating. Luckily he was really nice and said he gave the other driver a ticket as they were at fault. then he said " don't forget- when you have a birthday- it's time to renew your license. Happy birthday..." It was a late Sat afternoon. I spent my monday morning at the DMV for sho'!

glad you got just a warning.

the same thing happened to me about five years ago, except it was (sounds too strange to be true, i know) right outside my home. the guy pulled me over right as i was about to park and go inside. totally freaked me out. i remember my husband peering out the window at the flashing lights with a mix of curiosity, confusion, and a pinch of good-natured humor (which i had very little of at that precise moment).

i'm glad you were lucky enough to get a nice guy that simply gave you a warning.

I already knew you had some "sensitivity", but good for you for acting on it! I can't believe you got pulled over for that. So lame! At least the cop was nice.

one time when I was leaving work- a thought popped in my head about what I would do if I walked up to my car and it was being broken into. So- I was playing Macgyver in my head and as I turned the corner to the parking lot- sure enough some creepy man was walking away from my car. We passed right by eachother and as I got closer I realized my window was broken. He had just filled his jacket with cd's and my radio! If I had been there a minute sooner I would have caught him in the act- which was confirmed by cameras on the lot. Wierd!
