Last night I met up with the husbandperson to see an award given to Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Maathai, who gave a great talk afterwards. M had made a short introduction film for the evening (which was excellent!), and we got to meet her after. It was quite an honor. She's had an amazing life. I went out this morning to pick up her autobiography, actually.

Of course, while I've been frittering away the last couple of weeks on the internet and wandering the aisles of Target, she's been tear gassed as she protests the current Kenyan government on behalf of hundreds of thousands of refugees. Gee, I'm an ahole.

I feel this way all the time. Seriously. And I work for a big corporation where I tell mothers of babies with pink that sorry, no, you're not eligible for health insurance. AGH.

On the bright side: I volunteer. I believe passionately in community service. And I'm going to become a librarian. And I will change the world, dammit.

We all do our part. You're raising an amazing son, which is quite a feat, too.

Some of us have to keep the economy going. To say nothing of raising kids. Mini-heroes are needed as much as maxi-heroes, methinks.
