Until fairly recently Owen hasn't shown much interest in drawing. We could ply a couple of stick figures out of him on occasion, but he really would rather we draw things to entertain him instead. Then there was his Yoshi period (2007-2008), resulting in an entire preschool year's scrapbook filled with drawings of bright green space dinosaurs. Turtle dragons? Whatever.

Anyway, since his cousin introduced him to the wonder and horror of Pokemon, things have changed. Our young artist has thrown himself into his work, fervently churning out masterpiece after masterpiece. Our fridge truly runneth over.

From the mind of a 4-year-old One of a million unpronounceable Pokemon

On the right we have an Aipom, which is one of a sea of unpronounceable Pokemon that Owen has memorized and obsessed over. On the left is an interpretation of Bowser from the Super Mario universe, and most likely a window into why my son doesn't sleep. Time to start that therapy savings account!

The front of the drawing Aaaand, the back

Here's another nightmare-inducing Bowser, and a nice example of how Owen has recently decided that drawings need a back as well as a front. And incidentally - they're not anatomically correct - those are tails, people.

It seems like his drawings went from heads with stick legs poking directly out of them, to these crazy creatures with mass and movement. The developing creative mind is really neat to see. :)

Pokemon ...

Would Owen appreciate an infusion of Pokemon Cards?

Daughter #1, who was quite excited about Pokemon when she was about 8 or 9, has long since lost active interest (after Daddy spent a lot of time & money on eBay acquiring quite a respectable card collection). We have racks of the more populous "common and uncommon" cards which exist solely because we're* packrats and incapable of truly culling any collection without a specific purpose. I am sure that there would be zero resistance to having a substantial chunk of those cards head off to Owen to provide him with "life models" of his new obsession!

The price of "collecting" around here is eternal vigilance!

Wow, thank you, that would be really excellent, only we haven't told him that Pokemon cards (or cartoons, even) exist yet. He's kind of an obsessive completist already, and that would just open up a whole world of insanity right now. I'm sure once Kindergarten starts he'll be exposed to it more, but right now he talks about the video game all day with a manic tone already, and I'm trying to tone it down while I can. :/

Of course, flash forward six months when I'm frantically asking if you still have that collection...haha!

I used to do this... when I was "designing" wedding gowns and whatnot in middle school/early high school. I'd draw the bride's gown, bridesmaid and flower girl. hahaha :D

The other amusing thing (which I've noticed in other drawings like that) is if something is blocked by the body mass, like short legs that are tucked forward (and wouldn't show from the back), he doesn't draw them in the back view.
I find that amazing! Kid brains are crazy.

if only they were anatomically correct that would have been stunning, since even people in university drawing classes shy away from genitalia.

Hi. I am quickly scanning through to try and get caught up with some people on my friends list.. Anyway, I had to comment that these are amazing!! I love the Bowser, and that front and back version is awesome. I noticed someone said you should make them into t-shirts.. you should definitely do a shirt with front Bowser on the front and back Bowser on the back!!
