Boats in Kittery, Maine

This weekend we drove 9 hours to coastal NH/Maine. Yes, we're crazy! But there was fun to be had, and

The Friendly Toast, Portsmouth, NH Warm afternoon in Ogunquit

Lighthouse

On second thought, maybe we shouldn't go to China today Not really happy with this 'sand' thing you guys are so excited about

Hello, lobster roll

I'm in my bathing soooot! Pier, Kittery Maine

We stayed in a fairly blah Holiday Inn in Portsmouth, NH (thanks, Priceline), but it was near enough to everything to not be an issue. We only really had Saturday and Sunday for fun, but we managed to explore most of Portsmouth and spend a day in Kittery Point and Ogunquit, Maine (a familiar spot for us) too. We managed to check off everything on our small vacation checklist:

- Cute town to walk about
- Beach time
- Old timey candy shop
- Quaint stores
- Soft serve ice cream cone by the ocean
- Lobster rolls
- Hotel pool (indoor and warm!)

And there you go! The only bumps in the road were coastal beach traffic and a baby who flatly refused to sleep in a hotel crib (and eventually just ended up in one of the double beds with me, kinda sweet to be woken up by a baby excitedly grabbing my nose instead of crying). Not the most romantic trip, but as a short family trip, it worked out ok. We're happy.

Lots more on Flickr.

Oh, PS we're booked for a girls weekend in Portsmouth (will be my first time there though Rory used to go as a kid) and attending Pumpkin Fest in Keene at the end of October. Have you ever been?

That will be fun! Portsmouth is a neat place; I wish we had a little more time to explore individual places there (hard with 2 kids, though). Great for a girls weekend, though! I've never been to Keene but a Pumpkin Fest sounds right up my alley!

Have fun!

That lobster roll looks DELISH. I love lobster, though I've only had it a couple of times in my life.

You're making me drool! The only time I can remember having lobster was on a brief road trip my family made to Maine when we were out in Boston visiting some friends. It makes me wonder if we went to the same place! I have no idea where we actually went, though.

We don't have lobsters very cheap here in CA, unfortunately, so I'll have to live with crab for now. I may be going to Florida in a few months, so maybe I'll get some then!

Yay! I didn't realize the trip was so soon. Is that bridge that O is running on in kittery? I know that bridge I think ( dock pier thing).

The boat pic is so ME. It bring me back to my honeymoon spent on coastal ME. ahhh- I feel ready to go back and have a lobster roll even though I don't eat lobster. Hmmm scallop rolls. yeah.

Nice pics

Yep! Kittery Point. And Maine is so nice; a great place for a honeymoon! We did part of ours on Nantucket, so similar.

So much fun!! I would love for Wes, Brock and I to get away like this for a couple days. :) That lobster roll is making me drool. We went on a vacation to Maine about four or so years ago and I had my first and only lobster roll and it was heaven.

fun fun fun!

so what I want to know is, how did Larkin do in the car? I'm curious because we're gonna take a small (3 hours) trip soon (hopefully) and I have no idea how many breaks we'll need to take, etc.

She did great! We took about 2 breaks up and 3 back, I think - but that's on a 9-hour trip. We made sure to stop for a meal and get out of the car to make it interesting/stretch a bit. 3 hours shouldn't be bad at all as long as the girls enjoy snoozing in the car - try to travel at naptime or delay nap until you go if possible!

Have fun!
